The New Era
2022: Ground Effect Returns
The biggest regulation change in decades. Cars with sculpted floors generating downforce through ground effect, replacing complex bargeboards and aero surfaces. Heavier, but designed to allow closer racing.
2026: New Power Unit Era
Removal of the MGU-H, increased electrical power from 120kW to 350kW, and simplified ICE. A fundamental shift in how F1 cars make and deploy power — with less total horsepower but more electrical dependency.
